Pam's Letter to NC Superintendent of Schools

To whom it may Concern,

I am a 1959 graduate of New Canaan High School . In 2009 we are planning our 50th High School reunion. Early discussions, via the internet, have already begun.

New Canaan High School gave us an excellent education. Many of us have pursued
Art, Music and Writing. A number of us have been published, become artists and noted musicians. One of the ideas that we have come up with is an “Arts Festival, Class of 1959”.
Several of us would like to exhibit our artwork, perform with our instruments and read our poetry.

Many of us received College scholarships to continue our education. I think that the town and the schools, in general, would be interested in “Where we have been and Where We are Now”.

We are thinking about where this exhibit and display would be held; the idea of the Carriage Barn Arts Center, The New Canaan Public Library, or the Town Hall, have been mentioned.

The idea of making a contribution to a scholarship for a student pursuing the arts
(Class of 2009) came to mind. We would need a contact person and thought that maybe a Scholarship chairperson would be a possibility. Art work could be exhibited and sold with a percentage of the sale going to the Scholarship. A one hour reading of poetry with music could be performed with a donation to the fund.

All these are early musings for our wonderful reunion.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Pamela Chatterton-Purdy
Class of 1959
